Heidi, Girl of the Alps Gets Short Anime Based on Parody of Heidi's Grandfather
posted on by Karen Ressler
Isao Takahata's 1974 Heidi, Girl of the Alps (Alps no Shōjo Heidi) anime, which adapted Swiss author Johanna Spyri's 1880 novel Heidi, will get a short form spinoff anime series focusing on a parody of Heidi's grandfather Alm-Onji. The series, Alps no Shōjo Heidi? Cyara-Onji, will premiere within the Fuji TV program #Hi_Poul on August 11.
The series will replace the taciturn Alm-Onji with the cheerful and flashy "Cyara-Onji" and follow his misadventures. Clara, Peter, and Josef (the dog) will respectively become "Sweets Clara," "Kira Kira Peter," and "Hard-boiled Josef."
The anime stars Toshiyuki Sassa , Yumiko Kobayashi, Mitsuru Ichiki, and Yuji Sota. Sota is also providing the animation and writing the scripts along with Sassa, Hidehiko Kankuri, and Keisuke Hoshihara.
"Cyara-Onji" comes from a series of popular stamps in the Japanese messaging app LINE. The "Odaiba Minna no Yume Tairiku" event, as well at the Fuji TV shop, will begin selling goods—such as pens, keychains, tote bags, cookies, and pins—for the project on Saturday.
