TMS fighting anime from Ashita no Joe's manga creator & anime director
TMS Entertainment is streaming all 47 episodes of the Karate Master (Karate Baka Ichidai) television anime on the American service Hulu. Hulu posted a story description:
The story begins as Ken, the only survivor of his commando unit, is discharged from his military duties. Worn out by the perils of war, Ken has lost his drive and motivation to live amongst the state of confusion that exists in the postwar period. Desperate and in despair, Ken finds that he must capitalize on his great physical strength by becoming a bouncer for a band of thugs and hooligans.Kens life has been one which has been filled with violence and self destruction until he comes across a book which changes his life forever...
Osamu Dezaki (Ashita no Joe, Ace wo Nerae!, Rose of Versailles, Space Adventure Cobra) served as the series director for Tokyo Movie Shinsha's 1973-1974 television adaptation of the Karate Baka Ichidai manga by Ikki Kajiwara (Ashita no Joe, Kyojin no Hoshi, Tiger Mask), Jirō Tsunoda (Pyunpyunmaru, Kyōfu Shinbun), and Masutatsu Ōyama.
This anime had not been previously released in North America.
