posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
If you recently read the English release of My Brother’s Husband by Gengoroh Tagame or are following along with the Queer Japan documentary interviewing Tagame, Rokudenashiko, and others and want to know more about what it's like to be queer in Japan, a 12-part YouTube series is bringing more light on the subject.
Tokyo Neighbors is currently being released as a labor of love and focuses on living as a gay man in Japan.
The first episode was released at the end of May and introduces audiences to a Tokyo bar in Shinjku's ni-chome district where characters discuss their common, day-to-day plights of love and coming out to family and friends. The first episode includes English subtitles.
You can read more about the state of LGBT issues in Japan in an enlightening interview with Queer Japan documentary filmmaker Graham Kolbeins.
