Hikaru Utada Switches Labels, Plans New Work For This Year
posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Singer Hikaru Utada announced on her official website on Thursday that she is changing labels from Universal Music Japan to Sony Music Japan's Epic Records Japan label after her contract with Universal Music expires in March. Utada notes that it is her first actual label change as an artist. She was originally signed to EMI Music Japan, which was absorbed into Universal Music Japan in 2013.
She plans to release a new work this year.
Fantôme, her first full album in eight years, ranked at #6 on the U.S. iTunes album chart in September.
Utada's father Teruzane Utada said in December that the singer was working on the theme song for the Kingdom Hearts III game, but he later said that the "decision is not official yet."
