I really wish that Funimation's newer releases were given the same treatment as Basilisk and Speed Grapher. It seems that the extras on almost all of their other titles has been reduced to OP/ED credits and trailers. Many of their newer titles don't even have dual sided covers, or booklets. That rub on tattoo in Black Cat vol. 2 made me smirk, but I would much rather have a booklet. The only new Funimation release (not actual content, but Funimation's contribution) that has impressed me is the Solty Rei release with slipcase, six episodes, and dual sided cover.

As for volume 3 of Basilisk, I found it not quite as good as volume 2 or 4. I'm not a big fan of recap episodes, but love flashback episodes like the one in volume 4. The first half of volume 3 feels like a follow up to the previous disc, and the end of volume 3 feels like a lead into the next DVD.

I love the implied relationships that one gets from a few exchanged sentences and glances. There are so many characters in the series that the series would get to bogged down if everything was spelled out.

Edit: Getting a bit sleepy since dawn is arriving, but added a few lines.

I've been watching Basilisk on IFC....so far it's cool. Nothing really extraordinary so far, but better than most shows that end up on TV.

I agree with the part about many of the ninjas being ugly. I was always anticipating when the next ugly character would die.

While I found there to be not to be a lot depth or character development in Basilisk, it's one of the few series where it really doesn't bother me. There was just something entertaining and unique about the series, that had me hooked after the fifth or fourth episode. I never had a problem with the actual dub scripting because aside from Oboro, the voices are "all" so dead on that I didn't pay any attention to any changes or errors. The only disappointment I had with Basilisk was the actual background music. It was fitting I admit, but I just think it left a lot to be desired.

Hey Carl,

I can't believe you gave this movie a "B", it has got to be one of the greatest anime movies out to this point. I'm highly disappointed with the way you judge this movie, it is one of my all-time favorites and I'm sure that other viewers can say the same. Only a cross-dressing, pud-licking librarian would write a review like that...

TV series, not movie. And if you're incapable of offering a constructive and rational criticism instead of spouting off moronic obscenities, your time here is going to be very, very short. Try providing reasons as to why you disagree, providing examples of what you find at fault with Carl's style of reviewing, and cooling your hostile tone, or else we won't hesitate for an instant to ban you.
