This has to be related to that survey that Crunchyroll did a while back (I think last winter, but maybe 18 months back?) where they went into deep detail about a hypothetical nerd-media streaming service that would band together a bunch of properties, both subscription stuff like Crunchyroll and premium content from prominent YouTubers and streamers (I don't recall the specific ones they were asking about in the poll, but stuff like Nostalgia Critic or Nerdist, and there were like 20-30 of them).
It was a huge survey, taking like 30 minutes to complete. I think they offered some financial reward for finishing it, like a $5 Amazon card. Anyways, I remember being skeptical about the idea… sort of "just because I'll pay for Crunchyroll, that doesn't mean that I'll also pay for subscriber-only content from the Fine Bros." or whatever, but if the bundle contained multiple things you're already interested in, maybe it would make sense? |

You have to worry that AT&T thinks it can recreate the cable model...
I.e. $100 a month for ~120 different streaming services of which you only really watch 1 or 2. What? You want ala cart pricing? Hahahahaha, sorry. If they think they can put the genie back, just in a different bottle, they're fooling themselves. |

The major problem with these types of streaming services on your smart phone, is that it is predicated on the consumer having unlimited streaming. If you don't have unlimited streaming on your smart phone, it is not worth buying this service or others.

If AT&T offers this, they need to make sure unlimited data is part of the deal.
I get the idea of bundles for value propositions, but you have to make it so said bundle isn't trumped by the stuff you don't want. |

Funny how some people think this is streaming over phones and I think a cable/satellite bundle offered on TV. And I also think that if that's the case, CR will have to change how they offer anime 'cause what they offer now wouldn't necessarily fit cable/satellite.

The latter could be an on demand app which are becoming increasingly common in cable boxes and not just phones, tablets, and game consoles.

It will probably be very similar to Comcast's Steampix, streaming bundle; which is accessible through phone, tablets, and tv (via cloud dvr device) . Much like Comcast's offering, odds are the streaming bundle will be sold as an add on to a Directv package (at&t brought Directv last year), at&t wireless account, and/or at&t high speed internet package. Priced probably similarly as well, Steampix is a $4.99 add-on service to basic cable Comcast subscribers.
By the way, if you have a at&t cellphone plan and are a directv or At&t Uverse (a&t plans on phasing out Uverse later this year & having Directv as its sole cable tv provider) customer, you will receive "unlimited data" on your cellphone plan. I don't like Netflix; original stuff is boring, old stuff I've seen a million of time, and newer stuff I'd rather rent from Redbox. I don't really like new Anime, prefer stuff made in the 80s - 00s. So Crunchyroll is useless to me.I have Amazon Prime (which I got for shipping not for video, I buy from Amazon on a weekly basis) but only watch it (on my Wii U) when I have nothing better to do. I like it as a fill in the gap service but can't imagine using it, Netflix, Hulu, or trolling for shows online as a substitute for cable tv. On top of that, I hate handling the separate billing that happens when you are subscribed to multiple streaming services. If I have to update my payment information or decide to add/cancel a service, I will have to go to different sites to do so. Too much work for me. Personally, I prefer channel surfing to binge watching. Prefer watching my favorite shows live and love watching Cartoon Network/Boomerang/Teen Nick/Disney Channel for whatever nostalgia goodies that pop up in the early morning; especially when I can't seem to go to sleep. So I do have a directv, an at&t phone plan, and oddly would subscribe to an at&t streaming service. |

Geh, I don't like AT&T much. Then again, the entire phone/Internet business in the United States is really underhanded and scummy. Nevertheless, this can only be a good thing for Crunchyroll.
