Attack on Titan Returns to 3DS With Online Co-op Play

posted on by Egan Loo
New December release adds stages, missions, over 20 more voices, some fine-tuning

The October issue of Kodansha's Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine is reporting on Tuesday that the Shingeki no Kyojin ~Jinrui Saigo no Tsubasa (Attack on Titan: The Last Wings of Humanity) Nintendo 3DS action game is returning in a new edition this December. Spike Chunsoft is adding an Internet cooperative play feature to the new Shingeki no Kyojin ~Jinrui Saigo no Tsubasa Chain edition. Four players can collaborate via the Nintendo 3DS system's Wi-Fi support on the Internet, and the game will offer limited text chat functionality as well as rankings.

The new edition will also add new stages (such as the ruined fortress and outside the walls), missions (such as reaching objectives via horse wagon), and many other new elements. The Chain version adds over 20 voices for both new characters and characters that already appeared in the original version. The Titans have new behaviors, and the staff have fine-tuned the 3D maneuver gear's motions, the game's difficulty levels, and other aspects. The pre-mission lobby has been revamped, and the interface has been improved.

People who already own the original game can buy an "update kit" in the Nintendo eShop, and their save data will transfer over to the updated edition. The packaged retail and download versions will both cost 5,378 yen (about U$51), while the update kit will cost 2,160 yen (US$21, plus some free space on an SD card).

Spike Chunsoft shipped the original game in Japan last December for 6,090 yen (about US$60). In the game's Story Mode, the player controls Eren, Mikasa, Armin, and other members of the Survey Corps as they recreate the anime and take on the invading giants. There is also a World Mode in which up to four players can make, customize, and train their own original characters for missions.

Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine is also announcing that the previously unaired Ilse no Techō original video anime will run on the MBS/TBS network on September 28 at 5:00 p.m.
