Never really saw the point in cases like this for recent series, I suppose some Japanese people will appreciate this a bit but the importers who they could be capitalising on will see it as unaffordable even if they want it uncensored (which Crunchyroll will eventually offer).

I know we aren't the target and they are often indifferent when releasing international materials, but this doesn't seem to benefit them.

As long creating and adding subtitles to the releases is cost efficient in terms of how many people outside of Japan buys the releases it's beneficial. And there are people who look for English friendly releases from Japan which isn't too odd since Japanese releases are really high quality.

English friendly releases in Japan are slowly becoming more common, though I hope the speed at which it's going accelerates soon Very Happy.

I wonder if the translation quality of these type of discs are on the same level as when a company here eleases a series on a disc and dubs it,

That's my beef. Importers will probably only jump on this if there is a decent translation, otherwise they have Crunchyroll and a likely upcoming release in North America and such.

I want to know whether the high quality extends to the subtitles and chances are it isn't worth it for importers unless they are offering exclusive novels or something with the DVD/Blurays are first print bonuses (probably available later on).

It is definitely pleasant to see (though I personally only think I know about a handful - I'll google later) but if it isn't responsibly affordable and superior to the $40 boxsets which will contain basically everything and more.

The only English friendly releases I've gotten are the Chihayafuru Bilingual manga volumes. That is as close as the manga will ever get to an English probably, till Kodansha and Crunchyroll agree that or something.

Bilingual manga seems to be one of a few cases which doesn't get the price blown completely out of proportion but I don't think many manga will get covered fully like that.

as long as you can understand what is being said in the subs or get a general idea then i would buy it after all japan doesn't have to add english subs so it is nice of them to do it

Being neither from Japan or the US, I'd rather get a release straight from the source.

now if only japanese releases weren't the same price for 2 episodes that it is for the entire series when they release it over here.
